We’re gradually working through the various complexities that expedited orders (these include, but are not limited to: priority, red alert, critical, emergency, vehicle down, vehicle off road, machine down, etc.) have on the aftersales business. The customer impact is clear: customers need the parts quickly and are willing to pay (via dealers) for the privilege of expedited parts and back orders. What we haven’t discussed at NAPB yet is the impact that these orders have on operations and processes at the warehouse. Whether it’s later cut-off times, different carrier cut-offs or policies, different packaging (for air shipments, for example), or simply different order allocation procedures, expedited orders do have impacts to the warehouse that can affect other processes as well.
